Get the Cheryl Fernandez-Versini Look

16th Nov 2014

The Long Wave – This is Cheryl’s signature hairstyle, and the way she wears her hair the most.  It is a stunning look that can be worn every day, and is so easy to do.

To begin, pop in your hair extensions.  To do this, you will need hair clips or a hair band to hold your hair out of the way, a comb and a full set of hair extensions.

Firstly, you will want to start from the bottom of your head, and work your way up.  Separate a small section of your hair underneath, and clip up the rest on top of your head to keep it out of the way.  A handy tip is if doing this on your own hair, you can use your fingers to separate the hair.  Put your fingers just behind your ears, and slide them both round to the back of your head until they meet, and you should get a nice neat line.  You will then need to back comb the hair a little at the roots this will help hold the clips in place.  You can then clip in the weft, use the centre clip first as you will keep it more central, and the outer clips next, this will keep it tight (no one wants baggy extensions).  Repeat this process all the way up the back of your head, using the smaller 3 clips, then the larger 3 clips, the 2 clips wefts can be used at the side of your head, along with the single clip streaks.

After the extensions are firmly in place, and you are happy with them, you can begin curling you hair.  Once you have finished curling your hair, you can backcomb the hair on the top of your head to give it a little more volume (though this is entirely optional).  After you have backcombed it, you will want to comb over the top of it, to give it a neat finish.  Finally, gently brush through the curls, and then use your brush to ‘bounce’ them up again, but very very gently brushing backwards.  If you like, you can use hairspray for hold!

The Pinned back Long Wave – This is a very beautiful and girly look, perfect to give a delicate and youthful appearance.

To achieve this look, you will need to follow the instructions above, to volumise your hair and make it wavy.

After you have completed the above steps, you can then use 4 bobby pins to pin the hair back.

Take the front section of hair on the same side as your parting (if you have a centre parting, choose either side) and pull it back gently, you can pin this in place using two pins just behind your ear.  For the other side of the hair, instead of pulling it back, you want to sweep the front round, and tuck it behind your ear loosely, so that you still have some hair hanging down at the front.  You can again pin the hair just above your ear.  You can also pull a little more hair out from the back and sit it over the pins if you want to cover them up.

If you like, you can use hairspray for hold!

Long Wavy Pony Tail – A very elegant and sophisticated look that is perfect for special occasions.

To begin, you will need to follow all of the instructions above, (the long wave, and the pinned back long wave).  After you have completed the above steps, all you will need to do, is gather up the hair into a pony tail, and fasten with a hairband.

If you want to cover up the hair band, you can take a section of the pony tail, and wrap it around the hair band, fastening it in place with a bobby pin.

Chic Straight Pony Tail – A very sleek and simple style, perfect for both everyday wear and red carpet events.

You will need to straighten your hair before you begin with this hair style.  Backcombing especially on the top of your head is a great idea to give more volume. If you want to achieve this look using hair extensions, there are several ways to clip them in.  My personal favourite, is to tip your head upside down, and clip them in backwards so the strand of the hair fall towards where the pony tail will be.  Only do this with half of the hair, the rest of it, you can put in normally (with your head upright) above where the pony tail will be.
To begin the pony tail, collect all your hair in one hand, and with the other, comb gently into place to give it a sleek and neat finish, but be careful not to brush out your backcombing work.  Once you have it looking perfect and in the right place, you can then fasten it with a hairband.

If you want to cover up the hair band, you can take a section of the pony tail, and wrap it around the hair band, fastening it in place with a bobby pin.

And that's how it is done.
